WWDC 2011 Possibly Scheduled for June 5-9

AppleInsider is speculating that WWDC this year will be held between June 5th through the 9th. They are citing an unspecified "Corporate Meeting" at the Moscone West center scheduled for those dates, which is typically where Apple has held past WWDC events.

This seems reasonable given that for the past 4 years, WWDC has typically been during the first or second week in June. For the last 3 major iPhone releases, Apple has made the official announcement at the keynote of WWDC on the first Monday of the event. Thus, it's possible they will announce the "iPhone 5" on Monday, June 5 at 10:00 AM PST.

Letter to Apple - Status of White iPhone 4

Dear Apple,

There are many loyal iPhone customers who are very upset by the lack of communication we are receiving from you. We understood according to Steve Jobs' keynote speech at WWDC that there would be two colors of the iPhone 4 available at launch, black and white. Many of us were so excited about the ability to pre order or reserve our new iPhone 4 on June 15th that we stayed up late the night before hoping to be one of the first to pre-order or reserve our iPhone 4.

However, we were instead greeted with a statement that says "White iPhone currently unavailable for pre-order or in-store pickup." For those of us who had our hearts set on getting the white version, not only are we crushed but we're extremely confused. What does this statement really mean? Will the white iPhones be made available for pre-order or in-store pickup before the launch on June 24? If not, will the retail stores have the white iPhone 4's available on a first come first serve basis on June 24? If not, when will they be made available?

While we're upset by the white models not being available, we're even more upset with the lack of information coming from you, Apple! Many of us are die hard Apple fans who have camped out for each of the 3 previous iPhone launches. Without knowing what to expect at launch, we do not know how to plan. We do not want to camp out to be one of the first through the doors at 7am if there is no chance of getting a white iPhone. Some have to travel quite a distance to get to the nearest Apple store, some need to re-arrange their schedules, request off of work and make other arrangements in preparation for the iPhone launch, but how can we do so if we do not know what to expect? However, if we do not get any more information on what's going on and as a result decide not to camp out but later find out that the white iPhones were available to those who did, that will come as a huge blow.

There is also another aspect to this situation that you need to consider. A majority of females are primarily interested in the white iPhone. It's a softer, more fashion forward option. So, the lack of the white and the looming uncertainty of its future availability has the unfortunate effect of alienating many female loyalists.

We know things happen that cannot be avoided at times. So, if something happened during the manufacturing of the white iPhones that required a delay in their release, then this could be understood if the situation was made known to all of us who are frustratingly waiting for word. However, without an official update on the matter, all we're left with is the feeling that Apple does not care about the consumers. I guess I just hold you, Apple, in such high regard that I expected a little more. I have converted many to the Mac/Apple world and am always bragging about how much more Apple cares about making the customer happy, about how Apple products just work. Well, right now, things aren't just working and many are not happy. Please, restore our faith in the Apple brand and let us know what's going on. A simple website announcement could go extremely far in restoring our faith in you.

Please consider what I've shared and release an official statement on the status of the white iPhone 4's in the next day or two. I'm including links to some forums, blogs, and websites on this issue so you realize that there is a large outcry amongst your would-be iPhone 4 customers regarding this issue.

Your Loyal Apple Fan,
Shelly Mares

iPhone 3G S Launch - Are you serious, AT&T and Apple?!

As a loyal iPhone 1st generation and iPhone 3G customer, I’m outraged by how I’m being treated. I was the very first customer in line at the Apple store to buy the 1st generation iPhone. When the iPhone 3G came out last year, I was out of town and, as soon as I returned, the first thing I did was drive to the Apple store to stand in the long line to buy the iPhone 3G. I didn’t even go home and unpack before heading straight to the mall!

For those of us who bought the 1st generation iPhone and the iPhone 3G right when they came out, we do it partly because we want to be a part of the hype. We want to be first! We want all the excitement! Now, we’re being told we have to pay an additional $200 to be a part of the hype, to be first, to have the excitement! We’re the reason the iPhone has been so successful! We’re the ones that are reported in the media as waiting hours and days before the stores open! We’re what make you, AT&T and Apple, successful!

Don’t get me wrong, I understand that the iPhone 3G was subsidized by AT&T. I understand that when we paid for the device that AT&T was kicking money to Apple as well and expecting to recover the money by our monthly payments for the majority of our contracts. HOWEVER….AT&T is allowing some customers to be eligible for the full upgrade pricing in July, some in December, some in January, and some in March. What’s with the inconsistency? We’ve heard grumblings of a reason behind this inconsistency. It has to do with the amount left on the contract, how much we pay per month, the type of plan (individual or family)….blah, blah, blah. These are just that, rumblings, though. No official word from AT&T as to rhyme or reason! Plus, when customers call in asking why their upgrade date is what it is, they are each being told something different. It has to do with how many night and weekend minutes you use, how many mobile-to-mobile, etc, etc, which essentially means, it has to do with how much money you cost AT&T with the “free” features. What! Get your story straight!

If AT&T and Apple had been straightforward with their customers in the beginning about what would qualify them for full upgrade pricing in about a year, then more than likely, all us early adopters would add the extra text messages to our plan to meet the requirements, or do whatever it took to jump through the hoops.

I want to be clear with the intent of this letter. I’m pointing a finger at BOTH AT&T AND Apple! I’m a very, very loyal Apple consumer. I’ve brought them a lot of business and referrals. However, I find it hard to believe that they are not aware of what’s going on here. Did they honestly expect that loyal, early adopters would be okay with paying $200 more or waiting God only knows how many months? They chose to contract with AT&T (an entirely other rant that I won’t get started on right now). So, it’s partly their responsibility to work with them to make sure their loyal customers win out! There are those who say that Apple iPhone customers should not get special treatment when it comes to cell phone contracts and upgrade policies. However, if AT&T and Apple had been up front about the upgrade policy a year ago, they would not have so many upset loyal customers!

Plus, I do believe that repeat iPhone customers should be treated with special regard! I want AT&T to keep in mind that we have made them a huge amount of money and dramatically increased their customer base. There is a large majority of AT&T iPhone customers who never would have signed up with AT&T if it had not been for the iPhone. Many of us are disgusted by how AT&T takes us for granted! Also, there is no other device that has received so much publicity and loyal following!

So, what should AT&T and Apple do?
  • Revise the existing upgrade policy to allow every current iPhone customer who bought the iPhone 3G within a couple of months of its release to upgrade at the full upgrade discount via pre-order or in person on launch day, June 19th!
  • Clearly state the upgrade policy so next year, there are no surprises! If Apple plans on yearly releases of the iPhone, then this needs to be taken into consideration with the upgrade policy so early adopters may continue to be eligible at launch.

Now, what should us loyal Apple iPhone customers do if we’re not eligible for the full discount price on launch day?
  • Call, email, and visit AT&T and Apple making your complaints known!
  • Post messages online on blogs, forums, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. Plus, post your correspondence with AT&T and Apple along with their responses.
  • Don’t cave and buy the iPhone 3GS on launch day at the higher price!
  • Encourage all who plan on buying the new iPhone to NOT go on launch day! AT&T and Apple are expecting huge lines like the prior years. Show them that those of us who previous waited in those lines will be greatly missed!

AT&T has dropped the ball on this one!

Their servers can't handle the load so my Mom's is "pending" activation.

Then, I couldn't activate mine yet because my zip code was changed by the postal service about a month ago and AT&T's computers don't recognize it. When I tried to call, they transferred me 3 times and ultimately to Apple Tech Support. My issue is with AT&T NOT Apple. So, when I tried to call AT&T back, they said they are having technical difficulties and couldn't take my call.

UGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've waited since 7:30am and now I can't use it!!!

P.S. Apple tech support said it's important to let it charge via an A/C outlet (not your computer) for 6-8 hours before use.
